כְּלָיָיהf. (כָּלָה) destruction, diminution, extinction. Ab. V, 8 רעב של כ׳ a destructive famine (general miscrop). Y.Ber.II, 5c bot. Snh.63a נתחייבו שונאיהם … כ׳ the enemies of Israel (censorial change רשעיהם, euphem. for Israel) would have been condemned to destruction. Gen. R. s. 10 אין ויכלו … לשון כ׳ vaykhullu (Gen. 2:1) has the meaning of affliction, of diminution (ref. to the reduction of the planetary courses after Adams sin).
